Albert Finney (9 May 1936 – 7 February 2019) was a British actor.[1] His career lasted 60 years. Finney was mostly known for his role in Tom Jones, for his role as Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express and for his role as Edward Bloom in Big Fish. He won a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, an Emmy Award, and a BAFTA Award.[2] He was also the voice of Finis Everglot in Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.
Personal life
[change | change source]Finney was born in Salford, Greater Manchester on 9 May 1936.[3] He was educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Finney married Jane Wenham from 1957 to 1961. Finney married Anouk Aimée from 1970 to 1978. He married Pene Delmage in 2006. He had a son, Simon.
In May 2011, Finney received treatment for kidney cancer.[4][5] Finney died from a respiratory tract infection on 7 February 2019.[6][7]
Finney declined the offer of a CBE in 1980, as well as a knighthood in 2000. He criticised these honours as "perpetuating snobbery".[8]
