Nicktoons are animated television shows which are produced by and aired on the children's television channel Nickelodeon. Before 1991, Nickelodeon aired mostly foreign made animated series. The idea for Nicktoons was formed in 1989[1] and on Sunday, August 11, 1991, the first Nicktoon, Doug, was aired followed by Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show. This format was repeated every Sunday.
