The Central District of Rigan County (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان ریگان) is in Kerman province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Mohammadabad.[3]

History[edit]

After the 2006 National Census, Gavkan, Gonbaki, and Rigan Rural Districts, and the city of Mohammadabad, were separated from Bam County in the establishment of Rigan County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Mohammadabad as its capital and only city at the time.[3]

In 2019, the village of Abbasabad-e Sardar was elevated to the status of a city.[4]

In 2023, Posht-e Rig Rural District was established in the Central District. Gavkan Rural District was separated from the district to form Rahmatabad District, including the new Sadabad Rural District.[5]

Population[edit]

At the time of the 2011 census, the district's population was 46,150 in 12,201 households.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the district as 62,433 inhabitants in 16,468 households.[2]
