User talk:Duncanogi

A tag has been placed on George Turnbull: "The first railway engineer of India" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Kyle1278 (talk) 19:56, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

George Turnbull

[edit]

I stumbled across your work on George Turnbull through the link on Abbots Langley ~ thanks for leading me into some interesting stuff I'd never come across before. I hope you don't mind the changes I've made: I made George Turnbull a disambiguation page and renamed yours to a pithier George Turnbull (engineer), switched repeated refs to named references, and removed some accidental signatures from articles.
Nice work! Bazj (talk) 21:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

George Turnbull (engineer) is now George Turnbull (civil engineer) (it's the "move" tag at the top of the page). Cheers, Bazj (talk) 14:08, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Bermuda lily field 1920s.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

License tagging for File:Ryujo 1870.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ryujo 1870.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Duncanmemoirspics 006.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.

Thanks for uploading File:Childers backpackers fire painting.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 16 April 2010. Despite the comments below, please keep this article which commemorates a life cut short by Australia's lax fire safety laws. There are few events that result in 15 arson deaths. The details of the arson event and its victims were given worldwide publicity because of the countries from where the victims originated. You can mention "Childers" to millions of people with sure recognition of the arson. I am confident that the TV and other media publicity particularly across Europe, Korea and Japan (about youngsters killed from there and warning their inhabitants of the risks in Australia) satisfies Wikipedia's "notoriety" requirements.Duncanogi (talk) 13:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Duncanogi. I see you've uploaded File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg. Please note that pasting an email on the image's description page is insufficient for Wikipedia. Rather the email should be forwarded to [email protected], noting the name of the image (File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg) and the image's copyright stats (i.e. is it public domain? is it GFDL, is it Creative Commons, ect.) For more on this, see WP:DCP and WP:PERMISSION. I'll give you a wee to do this, otherwise, I'll delete the image. -FASTILY (TALK) 04:12, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. Will do. Duncanogi (talk) 10:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted image

[edit]

If you're referring to File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg in your message on my talkpage, I was not the one who deleted it. I merely operate the computer program that cleaned up after User:Explicit deleted it.

If you look at the deletion history for that image, you'll find that it was deleted after this discussion. I don't have access to the OTRS system, but the emails you posted on my talkpage simply grant permission for the image to be used on Wikipedia, which is not the same thing as releasing the image into the public domain (what you claimed on the image description page). This discrepancy, and the fact that Wikipedia-only permission is not sufficient for an image to be used on Wikipedia, is why the image was deleted. --Carnildo (talk) 21:48, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Childers backpackers painting.jpg

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Childers backpackers painting.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

The article William Paton Ogilvie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I have nominated RacingThePlanet: Namibia, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RacingThePlanet: Namibia. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 06:54, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, RacingThePlanet: Namibia

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, RacingThePlanet: Namibia. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - RacingThePlanet. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at RacingThePlanet - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 01:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2010_May_3#File:Childers_backpackers_painting.jpg Simon-in-sagamihara Like a previous editor did, I'll wait a week for you to request the appropriate permissions from the copyright holder before tagging the image for deletion. (talk) 03:43, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Yet another ..." but James Alexander of Wikipedia "permissions" is handling the situation. The artist Jo Paliatis has given permission ... but Wikipedia needs adjusted wording for this. Please Simon-in-sagamihara be more sensitive. I have met the mother of one of the youngsters killed, still mourning her beloved son ten years after the event, and she is horrified by the continued contention. I am still trying to get useful information about this widely publicised arson adequately covered in Wikipedia. Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please add to articles instead of so often harassing others. Harassment reduces the willingness of people to contribute to Wikipedia. --Duncanogi (talk) 12:20, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duncan, I'll ignore your personal attacks and focus on the issues at hand. "Yet another" refers to your latest misunderstanding of copyright in this list:

Second, your friend's feelings are irrelevant to Wikipedia articles -- unless your friend is notable as per WP:N! Third, you have been advised time and again about how Wikipedia is not a memorial site, nor a soapbox, nor a free web host. You have been directed to Wikipedia's offical policies on every point that you seem to have trouble grasping, and yet you continue to push the same point of view. Fourth, I direct you to the notice that is shown under every "Save page" button: "If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 12:54, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding your edit to RacingThePlanet: Namibia: another editor reverted your edit. Did you see the notice in the "This article is being considered for deletion..." box? It says "Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed." The bolding is in the original. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 12:56, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please add to articles instead of so often harassing others. Harassment reduces the willingness of people to contribute to Wikipedia.

You reasonably list 12 pictures for which I did not correctly add the copyright authority. 10 of these are photos/pictures etc taken by me or my family (some of them dead). The Wikipedia copyright procedure is complex as explained by many others: please do not continue to harass people who willingly contribute but have tried to understand Wiki procedures. Please concentrate on adding to Wiki rather than deterring others.--Duncanogi (talk) 13:43, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ad-hominem attacks, Duncan. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 13:47, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with you. Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please now concentrate on adding to articles instead of so often harassing others such as me. I have spent many hours contributing information that I have researched. Your activity disinclines people to contribute: are you doing the same with many other people?--Duncanogi (talk) 15:46, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Salvador Calvo Redondo has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from David Gordon Hines. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. If you want to remove one of the maintenance templates (notability), you can remove that one individually. You don't need to remove the whole set. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 23:13, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments below. Notability: please note the London Daily Telegraph obituary that is already referenced in the article. Your major concern seems to be to attack notability even though there is an internationally respected source already posted. Please look at the obituary which was thoroughly reviewed by this reputable newspaper. The newspaper accepted the obituary because of the hundreds of thousands of African subsistence-farmers that had improved living standards because of David Gordon Hines and his team. I was very impressed when I interviewed him. May I suggest that you review the obituary, identify other sources and add information to Wikipedia? -- Wiki needs more about Africa and about co-operatives.Duncanogi (talk) 09:35, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is my final message to you off article talk pages. Please do not contact me via my talk page any more. If you have a specific concern about an edit to an article, feel free to post it to that article's talk page. If you continue to ignore established Wikipedia policies and attack me personally I will report you to the Administrators' Noticeboard. Thank you. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 10:07, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please clarify (without using threatening language again): you are not wanting comments on your talk page but you put them on mine and those of other people.Duncanogi (talk) 10:32, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I also wanted to touch base because a search of the OTRS system did not turn up this image in connection with the other images from the mother of this victim. A tag has been placed on Storran Gallery requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay.
