A bowl of strawberries for you!
[edit]Hi! I saw you joined WP:Feminism. Yay! I'm glad you did. Anything I can do to help you, just let me know. Happy to see you're interested in San Francisco (a place close to my heart) and Catalan language (one of my dear friends is from Barcelona). Thanks again and I look forward to following your contributions! SarahStierch (talk) 02:02, 12 November 2011 (UTC) |
gender violence
[edit]Did you mean for that page to be a category? It has no content currently, and is likely to get deleted quickly as is. Gaijin42 (talk) 21:29, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- You can just make a category, and add the subcategories to it, and whatever pages you want directly added as well. Gaijin42 (talk) 21:51, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
BSFC and UCB
[edit]Hi Eekiv!
I'm a UCB student and BSFC volunteer. One of my Wikipedia nerd friends pointed out the fact that the BSFC page was a stub a while ago. I only just got around to adding a little bit of history last week because I'm generally lazy with Wikipedia, you know how it goes. I would definitely like to add more to it, and I would love to help contribute to the UCB page! I'm on spring break right now so I can probably do some editing now. Let me know when you do your edits and I'll take a look at them. Thanks for saying hi!

Berkeley
[edit]Hey fellow Cal Wikipedian,
I saw your note on the UCB talk page. I haven't worked much on UC-related articles till now, but I'd be glad to drop in once in a while. I'm just trying to get a sense for how many active editors do we have on campus, and whether there are any plans/interest for a Berkeley wiki-meet (this page and the mailing list seem to be pretty dead).
Cheers, SPat talk 01:35, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, Eekiv - I was referencing something on the Cal Berkeley site, and hit the link for List of Fraternities and Sororities at University of California, Berkeley. It redirects back to the Cal Berkeley site. What happened to this page? Was this deleted as vandalism? The topic merits a subsection IMHO. Jax MN (talk) 03:24, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of University of California finances
[edit]A tag has been placed on University of California finances, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Moreover, please add more verifiable sources, not only 3rd party sources. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. West Eddy (talk) 23:17, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- I got moaned at. You are simply asking for trouble starting an article in the (article) namespace. I have restored page which is nothing at present to User:Eekiv/sandbox. Do not move it back until it is a proper article. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:42, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Hatnotes
[edit]Just for future reference, note that the preferred way to mark hatnotes to related articles under section headers is to use the templates {{main}}, {{see also}}, etc. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! --Cybercobra (talk) 01:02, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Question
[edit]I see you added yourself to Requests for mentors over at Wikiproject Cooperation. I just wanted to ask who it is that you're working for that causes you to be a paid editor? Because your userpage doesn't seem to indicate that you are as such. Does it have something to do with UC Berkeley? SilverserenC 23:29, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Silver! My user page does in fact have a subpage that explains my work (see the bolded text below my introductory paragraph, or simply click here). I'll reformat it to make it a little more apparent. Eekiv (talk) 23:43, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I just wanted to make sure. We've had people add themselves before when they only had a COI and weren't actually paid editors and that's not something we really cover. Thanks for letting me know. I would definitely advise you use the Paid Editor Help page though so you don't run into some trouble and belligerent editors down the line for putting the articles and changes into mainspace yourself. SilverserenC 23:51, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the advice. Will do. Eekiv (talk) 23:59, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, and would you recommend then that I remove myself from the mentor request list? Eekiv (talk) 00:00, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- No, of course not. I just wanted to make sure you actually fit who we're trying to act as mentors to. I'm gonna go see now if someone will take up your mentorship. SilverserenC 00:05, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

- Hi Eekiv!
- I have edited some articles related to North American Students for Cooperation and its members in Chicago and Ann Arbor, and would be interested in learning about the Berkeley Cooperatives. In the 1980s, I saw a newsletter with the editorial headline, "Selling Heroin Is Not Cooperative", and I trust that Berkeley has dealt with its problem of that era. :)
- You should also consider joining the WP project on cooperatives.
- Silve Seren is more familiar with COI policies, of which I have some knowledge.
- Given our overlapping interests and your request for a mentor, I would be pleased to help you with editing, particularly if you develop articles or sections of articles in your user space. Let us say that for the mentorship that you must write first in user-space if you may have any appearance of a possible conflict of interest, and then I can provide feedback. Would that be agreeable?
- In cooperation, Kiefer.Wolfowitz 08:14, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Nice to meet you, Keifer!
- Thank you for your offer to help out--your offer is indeed agreeable and is kindly accepted :] I will be uploading some of my research onto my sandbox starting toward the middle of next week. I'll let you know when I do so.
- I'm really excited to know that you're a fellow co-oper! How did you first become interested in co-ops? In other words, what is your co-op history?
- A lot of my for-fun edits have actually had the tendency to revolve around co-ops. It's only sensible that I add WP:Co-ops to my userpage.
- Part of my research includes info on the Green Initiative Fund at UCB, a grant program that helped to kickstart two collectives on campus: the Berkeley Student Food Collective (a student-run cooperative grocery store) and BicyCAL (a bike repair/advice/rental collective). My grand goal in including this information in my edits is to create more interlinkage between info on environmentally-oriented cooperatives (and indeed all cooperatives!) in the Bay Area.
- Speaking of the Bay Area, it is flooded with co-ops. I notice that there's a category for US-based co-ops, and would like to propose creating categories that are even more geospecific. Do you know how I do so? As I said, I'd like to promote more interlinkage between co-ops in the area (and see less red links on important Bay Area co-op nodes such as the NoBAWC page. Have you heard of NoBAWC (pronounced "no boss")?).

Just as a note: Eekiv is a real-life friend of mine, and I'll be looking over her future edits as well. I have something of a conflict of interest w/r/t her, so I won't be pushing her edits live or anything, but probably will be editing her sandboxed content sometimes. (I'm not under contract with UC Public Affairs - in fact, I'm pretty sure I'm a nightmare for them given some of my real-life hobbies - and I have no direct financial interest in any of Eekiv's edits just to be clear.) COI+ certification proposal
[edit]I've thought of an idea that might break our current logjam with paid editing. I'd love your sincere feedback and opinion.
Feel free to circulate this to anyone you think should know about it, but please recognize that it hasn't agreed upon by either PR organizations or WikiProjects or the wider community. It's also just a draft, so any/many changes can still be made. Thanks and cheers, Ocaasi EdwardsBot (talk) 15:01, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for doing this! I'm really happy to see this effort being made toward more paid editor engagement! I have a nuanced and perhaps unique perspective and reasoning as to why I currently edit for pay, and would love to add more greyscale into the conversation. I'll ponder over it in the next week and give you my feedback at the end of it (I'm busy IRL...with developing content for edits!). Eekiv (talk) 16:00, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
My new project - WWC
[edit]Hi Eekiv! I hope all is well. I wanted to stop by to share a new project with you that I am developing, called the WikiWomen's Collaborative. I would love your input about the project.
- You can find the project page here.
- On the talk page, you'll find a number of questions I'm seeking input on. I'm especially seeking thoughts about hosting the space off of Wikipedia (in the WordPress section). I hope you will join in on the conversation.
- Finally, this project will be developed with volunteers from around the world who want to engage and support bringing new women to Wikipedia. If you think you'd like to be involved in some capacity, that'd be awesome. We're still working on developing roles, but, you can learn more about volunteer opportunities here.
Thank you for the consideration and I hope you'll participate in developing this exciting new project to bring more women to Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 23:54, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

California Hall
[edit]i placed this article in Portal:San Francisco Bay Area. i am currently the only editor really working there. this is a very good new article. i do not like paid editing, but mostly because the work is ALWAYS designed to promote some business. This is an obvious landmark, so as long as you are not posting a link for fundraising :) its fine.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:03, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, M!! You may also like to check out my work on the Hearst Memorial Mining Building article. It was originally a stub with just an introduction section. I recently submitted a proposal to the university to hire me to work on articles on buildings on campus that are in the NRHP (or perhaps should be, given their historic significance) and to install at these landmarks QR codes that link to their respective Wikipedia articles. I did a couple of small paid editing projects for the university in the recent past (for more info, see here). This more recent proposal was inspired by the many creative minds I encountered at Wikimania 2012, who pointed me in the direction of landmark appreciation and Wikipedia as a platform for landmarks' digital preservation. With this in mind and while being asked by the university to draft a new proposal, I came to discover that the campus has 24 buildings in the NRHP, and that 11 of them at that time didn't have articles, 8 were stubs, and 2 were flagged for missing or poor citations. I'm currently on a work freeze as I wait for approval of hours for this project. My fingers are crossed--I would be so incredibly stoked should they approve the proposal! I will keep you updated should they hire me once more. :] Eekiv (COI) 19:51, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

UC vs Stanford
[edit]I have done a preliminary check, and it appears that Stanford has a much more complete categorization scheme on WP for its various faculty and schools, than does UCB. If you can address this, it would help the project, i believe, as we have a huge number of UCB faculty all grouped together, when i am sure at least a half dozen schools/depts have significant notable faculty for their own categories.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 08:02, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)
[edit]Seasons Greetings,
This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.
Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.
While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.
Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.
This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Wikipedia:Translators available list.
Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:16, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Re Cal football history
[edit]Hi, In the talk page I read that you did some editing work for the university. Do you still do that? I'm contacting you because I want to ask a question and request from Cal and regarding wikipedia. I am currently putting some time into the California Golden Bears football page history. There was a significant event in Cal history - the season of The Bear Minimum team in 1968. Its defense is one of the greatest in history. I found only one picture that has the defense rather than the offense on it. It goes great with the entry because it has both coach and players in it as well as a sense of triumph as its of them upclose holding the Axe. If you are still in contact with Cal could you as if they own the copyright and if so is it possible to use the picture? It would be great for our university as it will go with the main source of how most people will be finding out about that period in our football history. Here is the pic http://www.calbears.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209300826 Thank you very much and Go Bears! Rybkovich (talk) 16:30, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Rybkovich! Usually, images are copyright the Regents of the University of California. I don't remember the UC's process for requesting use of their images, but library people would know. I would first inquire directly with Cal Athletics's web/communications people and ask who the copyright holder is and where to go from there. Here's the athletic department's list of contacts. I would maybe try their web manager, John Lemein jlemein [at] berkeley [dot] edu. Good luck! Eekiv 22:05, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

The regents have copyright over a lot of amazing images (including original campus plan sketches by Frederick Law Olmstead)...it would be great to see more of them up on Wikipedia. Otherwise, they're totally missing out on a great opportunity to share UC history with the world. :] Eekiv 04:24, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:15, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of UC Berkeley financial aid
[edit]The article UC Berkeley financial aid has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Regards, James(talk/contribs) 16:56, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Nomination of UC Berkeley financial aid for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article UC Berkeley financial aid is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UC Berkeley financial aid until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Regards, James(talk/contribs) 06:32, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Eekiv. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 11:07, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

- Photojournalist Kris Schreier Lyseggen, author of The Women of San Quentin: The Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons, will tell us about her work and how she researched the topic.
We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. We will have beverages and light snacks.
Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on this point.

[edit]The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather at Bay Area WikiSalon to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.
We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have:
- A brief report on Pride edit-a-thon recently held at the San Francisco Publice Library, coordinated by Merrilee:
- What topics might we cover in a follow up?
- Find out more about resources your public library provides to help with editing (hint, it's more than just books!)
- Special announcement (secret for now but come and find out more!)
- Join in on an in person Wikidojo!
- Are you curious how your peers approach writing a Wikipedia article? This exercise, pioneered by Wikipedians Nikola Kalchev and Vassia Atanassova in 2015 and conducted in many places around the world, will help us all - from first-time wiki users to veteran Wikipedians - share ideas, while building an article together. If you have ideas (relating to Bay Area history, ideally) about a new article we could build (stubs and short existing articles are fine), please submit them ahead of time to coordinator Pete Forsyth. (User talk page or email is fine.)
- Announcements and impromptu topics are welcome, too!
Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict.

This month only, we are going to be at Noisebridge, a hackerspace/makerspace 1.5 blocks from the 16th & Mission BART station (see the link for directions). Some of us will be working on the Wikipedia article on basic income. All info here. Some good news - we do not have to be as strict about advance RSVP at Noisebridge, so bring spontaneous guests! Invitation to the Bay Area WikiSalon series, Wednesday, August 31
[edit]Hi folks,
We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.
We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:
- Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.
Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

Invitation to the Bay Area WikiSalon series, Wednesday, September 28
[edit]Hi folks,
We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.
We will have no formal agenda to allow people to freely share ideas and perhaps learn about Wikipedia through hands-on editing. Co-organizer Ben Creasy will be looking at election-related articles to enhance the information available in the upcoming November elections.
Co-organizer Stephen LaPorte has suggested doing an upload-a-thon for Wiki Loves Monuments. Niki, the California coordinator for WLM will be in attendance. WLM is an annual event and the official dealine is Friday the 30th for submissions to count towards awards.
Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, or a stool and do your own thing.
For further details, please see: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, September 2016. Mark your calendars now for the 3rd Wednesday in October, the 26th, when we will have a brief presentation.

Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, a stool or counter and do your own thing.

Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday
[edit]Hi!
Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.
The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.
In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.
