I've left a comment on the talk page. Sorry for the late reply. I hadn't checked Wiki for a while. But I am glad the situation is resolved. And Chanakyathegreat's second account has finally be blocked indef. Good riddance. Nirvana888 (talk) 16:29, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Odyssey Dawn

[edit]

re: Operation Odyssey Dawn; quick note: Operation Odyssey Dawn, Opération Harmattan and Operation ELLAMY are three separate operations, unified only after March 31 under Operation Unified Protector. Odyssey Dawn was the US and attached allied forces operation; while Opération Harmattan and Operation ELLAMY were the much more aggressive French respectively British campaigns. noclador (talk) 18:52, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but I realised my mistake when you had pointed it out, I had read the source and intro wrong, sorry for the misunderstanding. Also, I believe Unified Protector is separate to the French and British strike actions and not the combination of all allied operations, such that some British ships had been moved to Unified Pro while some still stayed with Ellamy. But this doesn't matter, thanks for the heads up! G.R. Allison (talk) 19:04, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
no problem :-) as for the French and British strike actions, they are under NATO, but they have much loser rules of engagement than i.e. the Norwegian planes. The only thing I know for sure is not fully under NATO command is the strike aircraft on the Charles de Gaulle, as their role is to help the rebels fight off Gaddafis troops and thus protect Benghazi. noclador (talk) 22:56, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for your opinion

[edit]

Hello. I would like your opinion on a sentence of policy. This request does not concern Operation Odyssey Dawn and I have decided not to work on that article any more. The sentence that I would like your opinion on is the first sentence of Wikipedia:Verifiability which states,

"The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth: whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true."

In your own words, what does this sentence mean? Please note that this is not meant to be the start of any kind of debate with you and I am only honestly interested in your opinion. I will look here on your talk page for your response. Thank you. 75.47.149.249 (talk) 10:38, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

About India as a rising superpower

[edit]

I would certainly support such a nomination, however I have nominated it previously on the ground of being a copy-edit. When proof was presented that such was not the case the nomination was taken down. Thus, if I would nominate it a second time, it may be perceived as if I was out to get that article. However if you, or anybody else, would happen to nominate the article for deletion, then you may count on my support :) Swedish pirate (talk) 23:41, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see, well, I've just nominated it based on the SYN and OR, thanks for letting me know. G.R. Allison (talk) 16:09, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese Century

[edit]

Hey, I was wondering if you could clarify your revert of my edit on Chinese Century. The edit was made to improve the flow of the sentence, which I assumed was acceptable as it appeared to be a paraphrase of Chua's work. So what about the edit, then, made the original version correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jetjaws (talkcontribs) 02:52, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, sure. The wording was the only problem, it makes more grammatical sense to say that the "size and resources for them [the diaspora] are unparalleled" rather than using "its". G.R. Allison (talk) 09:33, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, whoops. When I first read the sentence I misconstrued the meaning of diaspora and because of that misunderstood what "them" referred to. Thanks for the help.Jetjaws (talk) 14:34, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No need to thank me, we're all here doing the same job! Good luck with your editing :) G.R. Allison (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I read the MOD articles and there were two waves deployed--Albion sailed first then Ocean. But if that's not so major, I'll leave it there.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 08:41, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with that is though, the task force itself isn't based on first and second waves. The waves situation just happened to be the way the ships joined together this time to form the one task force, it was only a product of the fact the second group of ships were quite far apart from the first group when it sailed. The waves in this case was just the order of arrival. G.R. Allison (talk) 10:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work on UK RFTG

[edit]

Nice work on starting the RFTG page; I've strengthened it.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 15:32, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I really do appreciate the help on getting it set up and running properly. Hope to continue working with you! :) G.R. Allison (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
HMS Ocean is no longer under COUGAR 11/RFTG. It is now under operational control of those dealing with Operation Unified Protector/Operation Ellamy. http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews/MilitaryOperations/ApachesGetReadyToHelpProtectLibyanCivilians.htm and http://www.navynews.co.uk/news/1213-ocean-and-her-gunships-dispatched-to-libya.aspx. Thus my edits. Unless you have news that Cmdre J. Kingwell still retains operational control over Ocean.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 15:59, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The issue here is that Ocean is still a constituent of the RFTG fleet. It being deployed to Libya doesn't change that as the RFTG is a fleet with assigned ships, their location has little bearing. Ocean is no longer involved in Cougar but it is still very much as RFTG ship. G.R. Allison (talk) 16:16, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think what you're meaning is it's no longer part of Cougar 11. RFTG isn't a deployment, it's a grouping of assets. Hope this clears it up. :) G.R. Allison (talk) 16:22, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I diagree with you. It is no longer under the operational command of Cmdre Kingwell, who is in command of the RFTG. Re-verting. I would like someone else to verify. I am NOT referring to location; Ocean is in a new operational command.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 16:25, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ocean is part of the RFTG concept, it is no longer deployed on COUGAR11. G.R. Allison (talk) 16:26, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No Ocean is part of the deployment to Unifited Protector/Ellamy no longer COUGAR11 nor RFTG. Unless you show me a source that says "still part of RFTG". You haven't.I have shown you sources that Ocean is deploying from one deployment to another. You have to proof beyond doubt that it is going to rejoin the RFTG after UP/Ellamy. You haven't.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 16:29, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is like many operations in World War II. Units of the British Army shifted under US Command, but were deployed under the British Army commander. Other dictionaries are better (talk) 16:30, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved this to the article talk page, cheers. G.R. Allison (talk) 16:31, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relatively Significant

[edit]

You need a source to back that up. The SSNs are more significant that most of the FRTG ships in terms of firepower. The Type 45s are definitely more significant than the "forever assigned" HMS Ocean. Size does not equate to "relatively significan".Other dictionaries are better (talk) 17:51, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Read what I said please, the largest units in the naval service being deployed is significant. A deployment of Archer patrol vessels would not be. HMS Ocean etc are significant assets. That's just common sense, you do not need to be so damn rude. G.R. Allison (talk) 17:54, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And you need to learn your military strength. Who considered largest ship in terms of size significant? Can you show me another source that says so? I don't see a Type 23, an LPD, RFA and Royal Marine units as significant as the deployment of SSNs or Type 42/Type 45s.Other dictionaries are better (talk) 18:49, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In this context the meaning refers to the assets deployed which despite being important naval assets, make up a significant chunk of the Royal Navy. A source is not needed to claim that the majority of the Royal Navys amphibious force being deployed along with escorts and an SSN is significant. G.R. Allison (talk) 18:58, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rising Powers

[edit]

Hi Mr GRA, I'm not sure if you knew there was someone suggesting that Turkey be added to Potential Superpowers or not but I just thought I'd tell you I have an old userpage I made a couple of years back for 'Rising Powers' (which I haven't touched in ages, really). Anyway, the discussion kinda made me look back at that old page and think about working on it a bit; you at all okay with looking over it or helping me flesh it out a bit, just to see if it goes anywhere? Comics (talk) 03:35, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
