Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Edit Summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. --220 of Borg 18:02, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hello Shaolin Punk,
I see you have made an impressive number of edits (See WikiChecker) and created quite a few articles. Thank you for helping to improve Wikipedia. However it seems no-one had formally welcomed you, hence the 'Welcome!' template.

Please take the time to read some of the links above, particularly those about Biographies of living persons (BLPs) (as that is a major area of your editing), Neutral point of view and referencing.

  1. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is a collaborative project and we need to work in co-operation with other editors. I say this because I note that despite your impressive edit count, you have made exactly 2 edits (here) to other editors talk pages. This is despite some experienced editors posting to your talk page to give you good advice, such as about normal Wikipedia practices in the use of flag icons in BLPs. Strongly suggest that you appreciate the concerns of other editors such as these. Editors concerns can be greatly helped by using informative edit summaries, which it appears you don't use at all, apart from automated ones.
  2. As for referencing I noted that your recently created page Michael Thompson (karateka) only had 3 references, and only one cite per reference. (Better than none of course!) Secondly the refs. only had their titles. Other information such as the publisher, author, date, and the 'retrieved' date (date the reference was 'accessed') is missing but are also important. There should be a selection for 'Cite' on the far right of your editing tool-bar. If you click that you can select a template back on the left, which you can fill in by drag&drop or pasting info into the fields on the templates. Much easier than manual 'coding'. Another way is to use the Reflinks tool, which I have done on Thompson's page. It isn't a perfect tool, doesn't always fill in all the data and and makes mistakes, but please try it out.
    1. Another thing I noted there was that you had the "External links" section before the "References" section, External links should be after Refs. per the Manual of Style/Layout. I have moved the sections to comply.
    2. I also have to question the reliability of the sources you used. Who are the 'Central Kickboxing Organisation'? Never heard of them, scanty information on their website. Little web presence [1] Only appears 6 times on all of Wikipedia (only 5 times as a source) and has no Wikipedia page of their own, which suggest that they are not notable, which further suggests that they are potentially unreliable. Sources have to be Reliable sources (WP:RS), especially for Biographies of living persons (BLP). Ref № 2 the 'bubblews.com' source seem to be a self publishing site similar to a blog. Self-published sources are not WP:RS
  3. I would also suggest talk page archiving rather than blanking it, though it is certainly not mandatory!

Sorry for all the waffling on, just trying to help you. Happy Editing. ≡ 220 of Borg 18:02, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About Andy Ristie & Glory Lightweight Championship title

[edit]

See here(http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/rankings/lw), there's no lightweight champion now. Ristie is just 2013 tournament champion, not the glory lightweight world title holder. He will fight against Davit Kiria for the vacant & inaugural Glory Lightweight World Title according to this article(http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/news/view/433), which is saying "Kiria will square off with Ristie (41-3, 21 KO’s) in the co-headline fight on Saturday, March 8 with the winner becoming the first GLORY World Series Lightweight Champion." Don't put the word "his title" to Andy Ristie page anymore. Frenchcafe (talk) 10:44, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Shaolin Punk. A few things. Much of what you did here has been undone or altered. You changed the dates to the month-day format, whereas the article had it the other way around: this change was needless, and was corrected/reverted by Dl2000. Please don't go around changing date formats: the format was perfectly acceptable, and European subjects typically have European dates. And see WP:DATERET. Also, you added a "controversy" section, but that's not a very good title since it's not neutral and criminal prosecution is not always automatically controversial. This information is now moved to the "Personal life" section. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 15:16, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Bd to the Bone.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello Shaolin Punk. Thanks for your edits to MMA articles on Wikipedia. A few points, though. One is that according to WP:INFOBOXFLAG we should not add flag icons to infoboxes like you've been doing: "Generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes, even when there is a "country", "nationality" or equivalent field: they are unnecessarily distracting and give undue prominence to one field among many." Also, according to the WP:MMA project -- as agreed upon by MMA editors -- we should generally not fill in the "style" parameter in infoboxes: "Do not use the style parameter from the

Shaolin Punk

in MMA biographical articles. Modern MMA requires training several fighting styles, which means that no mixed martial artist uses a single style when fighting...". And finally please watch out for overlinking which refers to linking to things like common geographical names, commonly known terms in general, and to the same thing more than once in an article (link to it the first time but not in succeeding instances). If you have any questions or comments you can reach me on my talk page. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 19:53, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources are essential

Information icon Hello, I'm BlackcurrantTea. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Sirwan Kakai, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. A tag has been placed on Category:Fictional Philippine Army personnel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. How to move an article to a different title

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Manitoba Warriors - 1323 a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Manitoba Warriors. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Diablos Motorcycle Club (Thailand). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Diablos Motorcycle Club (Thailand)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Non-existent categories

[edit]

Information icon Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Murder, Inc. (1960 film), please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red.
