Vandalism?
[edit]Daniel, please explain to me why you nixed my contribution and characterized it as vandalism. I checked the page on vandalism and I'm sure that my entry does not fall into any of those categories. I'm new to wikipedia and I don't necessarily know how to do everything properly. For instance, I had a hard time figuring out how to reply to you. I would appreciate any constructive help, but I don't appreciate it if you are some kind of over-zealous, control freak wikinazi. I would like my valid addition to The Secret (film) to remain.

[edit]Hey, I never said Green Day sucked!! Someone else said that, and I edited it out!! Next time, look at the history before mouthing off!! Davi 16:10, 28 November 2006 (UTC) Alright, I just looked at my user page, here's the deal: User:Darktrax577 left a disparaging comment on the Green Day article. I removed it, and left him a warning. He then went to my user page and, without leaving a signature, pretty much repeated his disparaging comment. I have removed it. I am a Green Day fan. And I hope that idiot burns in hell...am I allowed to say that?? Davi 16:16, 28 November 2006 (UTC) It's all good. Davi 18:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for working on the vandalism problem, but be careful! You removed 1/3 of the article on James Monroe and re-inserted a bunch of earlier vandalism, when all you really needed to do was to remove one line! Cheers, Eleuther 23:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

- The account is currently blocked indefinitely; the IP should be free to edit, unless there's an autoblock in place (those I can't control). Judging from the fact that the {{unblock-auto}} request was placed by the account (as opposed to someone else), and from a quick glance at Special:Contributions/209.66.192.143, I don't think we're missing much, either way. [edit]Thank you very much for your kind message at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:82.45.248.177 . The trouble is that I have sort of been there, done that a bit - I have thousands of edits under an old username - and although I do love Wikipedia in many ways, I am also pretty clear about the fact that it would really be better for me to spend less time here, rather than more. That is, it's pretty much like an addiction and actually I don't think it really does me much good in the long term - I think I already spend too much time on here, even now, from this IP or from another semi-defunct username I still occasionally use for a small amount of editing. But I do very much appreciate the kind sentiment, and thanks for voicing it. Best wishes, 82.45.248.177 11:46, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

- He had already been warned at least 5 times and Had recieved a last warning. He had not been blocked since that last warning according to the block log and all the other warnings had been placed after the last warning. Correct me if I'm wrong but at that point don't you just go to WP:AIV? Since he has already recieved enough warning.--St.daniel 13:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Look, its good that you are reverting vandalism and reporting vandals to WP:AIV. However, in this very case, you did not warn the user a single time this day. The IP might be shared by other users, how would they know that what they are doing is wrong? We need to assume good faith with the vandals and not retaliate with the their kind of retribution. However, I cannot blame you. We have another administrator who blocked him. Reply here if you want to; or read what the top of my page says. ;) — Nearly Headless Nick 13:19, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't it a legtimite reason to request someone who has recieved many warnings ,not by me but by other people, had gotten a last warning and is still vandalizing. Isn't that a valid reason for blocking or do I still have to leve a warning to his page like all the other editors. Can't I use the other users warnings and the fact that he continues to vandalize as reason to nominate for blocking. Isn't that a valid reason?--St.daniel 13:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Imagine, you are one of the persons using the anon IP. Your little brother tries Wikipedia. Its fun vandalising. He makes 6 vandalistic edits, gets the boilerplate templates slapped on his page and eventually gets blocked. You are new to Wikipedia too, you try vandalising and get blocked immediately. You never see the You have new messages message on the top of any page, you are clueless why you were blocked. In case the vandal was blanking pages and replacing them with small pieces of text, you could have put a {{bv}} template (also read WP:SUBST) on his talk page, and monitored his contributions. In case he vandalised again, you report him to WP:AIV. It's as simple as that. The last warning is the last warning before the block, after that its a clean slate, unless the user has a very long history of vandalism, which this user did not have. Also, please reply here, I am watching this page. Warm regards, — Nearly Headless Nick 13:32, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- First off I would like to say that I did not attempt to be overally cruel to this vandal or deal out harsh justice. I was just following procedure. I have been blocked because of vandals on my shared IP even though I was a registered user. It sucked but I realized that it was what needed to be done. Second I didn't know it was a shared IP. That was not at the top of the page at the time I nominated him for deletion. Second he had gotten a last warning already. It if he had been a vadnal it would not be my responsibility that he had been blocked. When you vandalize you have given up at least some of the trust wiki places in you people begin to watch you closely for another page blank or swear word. I believe in good faith but there are limits. And I would like to stress that the reason I did not place {{bv}} or test 4 or any other template on his page was because he had been warned 11 times before and had recieved a last warning. Heck I would have given him a test4 excecpt that I saw that someone had placed it already and so I nominated him for blocking. Obviousally it being a shared IP changes it but I didn't know he was on a shared IP before. That was added after the block. You can't believe that after getting about 11 warnings including one test4 he was not a prime canidate for blocking. You also mention something about trying vandalizing. I have no sympathy for people who try vandalizing. I don't think you should be blocked for it because that would be wayy to harsh but I don't have sympathy for them all the same. As for monitoring his contribs he had already recieved a last warning and was continuing to vandalize that is enough monitoring for me especially when I'm Rc'ing. I'm sorry if it seems rude but I have never had anyone who had a problem with blocking a vandal with 11 warnings and one last warning who was still vandalizing. please reply.--St.daniel 20:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Can I ask a question?
[edit]Presuming that the warnings and vandalism have been recent or ongoing, I imagine I would probably place a block in such circumstances -- hard to be too specific without a specific example, of course. You needn't let someone know before reporting them to WP:AIV, but it's usually best if they've gotten (and continued vandalizing, following) {{test3}}, {{test4}}, or {{bv}}, following prior warnings as appropriate. [edit]Just FYI, I've sprotected your userpage, since whoever you upset the other day is still at it. If you'd rather I lift it, you need only let me know (userpages are generally protected/unprotected on request). WikiProject Rock music invitation
[edit]Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

Muhammad images
[edit]I just received your message as to why I deleted the picture of the prophet.
First off, before I go any further I would just like to clarify that it was my brother who deleted the picture(s). He is a very devoted Muslim and he goes on Wikipedia daily to read any article pertaining to Islam. He's not here right now to defend his actions, so I will.
The subject of depiction of any life form is debatable among many Muslims, but one topic that is certainly not debatable is the fact that the prophet Muhammad should under no circumstances be depicted in picture. Yes, I understand that depictions do exist and the pictures were posted on Wikipedia for newcomers, possibly to better understand the religion. However, these pictures defeat the purpose of allowing one to understand the religion.
I doubt anyone can forget the controversy surrounding the Danish cartoon. While most of it relied on the fact that the prophet was compared to a terrorist, there was the fact that it was still a depiction.
Finally, the deletion of the pictures was not an intended act of vandalism. It was simply done out of devotion and the hope of better education. It was not done to insult anybody or ruffle any feathers.
I hope that clarifies.

On the moral dimensions of kicking people while they're down
[edit][Imported from my discussion page.]
I understand your anger but please don't beat the people while they are blocked --St.daniel 17:51, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- It was less of a beating and more of a jovial poking with a sharp stick. Beatings actually cause injury, while goadings can often be funny and even productive. There's no better way to encourage a healthy disdain for vandals amongst the other students at that school, who will find themselves pre-emptively blocked ("What the hell is wrong with Wikipedia?! Teacher!") for the rest of the school year, than pointing out the common inability of many vandalizers to spell even simple curse words.
- Well ... of course there are "better" ways, but few so likely to evoke a didactic chuckle. To show I'm not a completely heartless comedian, I've added the shared-school-IP template to the talk and user pages for that IP address. --Dynaflow 20:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit]FPC Nominee
[edit]OK, everything's fine as far as I can see. The creator of the photograph is fr:Utilisateur:Yogi. By the way, you don't have to load anything from Commons to make the nomination, just do the same thing you would do with an image on Wikipedia.--Pharos 19:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
D&D wiki project consensus
[edit]A call to all members of the D&D wiki project. We are currently having a major dispute that needs to be settled by all members of the D&D wiki project. The dispute is as follows. 1. Should we put disambiguation tags on D&D articles preemptively or should we wait until there is an article conflict with some other Wikipedia article. Vote on preemptive or wait.
2. What should we label these tags? Example "child's play (module)", or "child's play (adventure)" and at this point we are taking all suggestions.

AfD Help
[edit]Hi, six of my articles have put up by AfD by the same person and are being voted on all by the same persons.. I was wondering if you could look the articles over and the things written on the discussion pages and give me your honest answer as to should they be up for vote or am I being paranoid? The articles are:
- Miguel Luis Tamargo-Bautista
- Vinagre Portillo
- Alonso J. del Portillo-Tamargo
- Alonso R. del Portillo
- Alonso del Portillo-Marcano
- Alonso del Portillo-del Junco
Last week I lost one of my articles and I thought it was a good faith AfD but now with six more up for vote this week I think there is more behind these AfD then good faith. Callelinea 13:27, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Hows it goin?
[edit]Came by your page from a fellow user and I have noticed your not very active recently but i saw the message on your user page and i just couldn't resist to give a fellow wikipedian a hello. I know sometimes how you feel and i always appreciate it when people get in touch with me for whatever reason. The Wikipedian community is so big that you really are a small tadpole in the ocean if you know what i mean. But dont think we all take your contributions for granted, you keep doing what you do and i hope you can join us more often in helping this project get better. You really have to look at the big picture sometimes and that really puts it in perspective. Thanks and all the best my fellow wikipedian! Roadrunnerz45 (talk 2 me) 11:55, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there! :)
As someone who's worked on D&D and/or RPG articles before, I'm inviting you to participate in our goal to both improve articles that have been selected to be placed in the next Wikipedia DVD release, as well as nominate more to be selected for this project. Please see the WikiProject D&D talk page for more details. :) BOZ (talk) 04:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject: Dungeons & Dragons
[edit]Hi! I’ve been working on a lot of ‘’Dungeons & Dragons’’ articles lately and saw that you were a member of WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons), and am inviting you to rejoin Wikipedia’s D&D group. I've been hard at work removing tags placed inappropriately on D&D articles, as well as modifying articles to remove tags that were placed legitimately. In addition, I have been compiling related articles together so that the articles are longer, making it easier to remove tags and to have short articles on lesser topics by just putting it into another appropriate article (links to such compiled articles can be found on my userpage). Check out the project here , and ask any questions that you may have here. Thank you for your time. Drilnoth (talk) 20:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
