Regarding your comments at Talk:Quadraphenia

[edit]

Hi, just as an FYI, if you believe it is useful, you are welcome to re-create Quadraphenia. For the sake of preventing gaming the system by banned users who defy their ban, we delete anything created by a banned user, but that is not a prohibition on someone else creating something similar if indeed it would be useful. --B (talk) 01:27, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sino-Japanese War

[edit]

I'd corrected a grammar mistake. I don't remember now where, but I suppose it doesn't make much difference either way. 135.26.20.185 (talk) 17:55, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately you inadvertently caused a grammar error. You changed the sentence "China rejected the new government as illegitimate, and war loomed." to "China rejected the new government as legitimate, and war loomed." Since there would be no reason for war if China thought the new government was legitimate, the second sentence makes no sense, so I switched it back. Let me know if you have further concerns. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 18:13, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not blank or delete "Foo (disambiguation)" redirects to "Foo" disambiguation pages. These are required by WP:INTDABLINK for the orderly operation of the project. Cheers! bd2412 T 14:34, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We were told our page didn't have the right resources and I submitted some new ones and no one has responded. Thank you. Here are are the few examples that I could find. Would they suffice?

Since BD2412 is going to look into this, and since I've recently lost much of my access to WP due to a new work filter, I'll bow to his expertise. Potential admin

[edit]

Hi, I notice you're on Wikipedia:List of administrator hopefuls. Wikipedia would benefit from more admins. If you have been editing for more than 12 months (preferably 24+ months), and have been editing fairly consistently for the past 6 months (preferably 12+ months) with at least 100 edits a month (this tool will help) - or an explanation for any gaps, and haven't been blocked in the past three years - or a good explanation for a recent block, don't have a recent history of edit warring or arguing with other editors, feel you can explain why you wish to be an admin, can demonstrate some understanding of Wikipedia's procedures and processes, or know where to go for guidance, and are confident enough to go through a RfA, please get in touch with me. We can talk about it some more, and if all looks OK, I'll nominate you. SilkTork ✔Tea time 09:34, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

While I would still like to be an admin one day, my time available for editing was severely cut a few months back, so I won't be applying right now. But maybe in the future. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 12:11, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Neuvoo

[edit]

Hi, Wtwilson. I saw you removed the speedy tag for Neuvoo, with a promise to work on the article with the submitter. The submitter has admitted at least twice (article talk page, my user talk page) that his or her purposes are promotional, and in spite of several passes at the article, I do not see any credible assertion of notability or any depth of coverage (there is in fact only one reference that comes close to being independent, let alone reliable). Could you at least move the article to Draft or a user page while it is being worked on? The main article space is supposed to be for complete articles that meet Wikipedia standards; I think no one but the author thinks that's what this article is. If your aim is to educate, educating him or her about drafts will be helpful. ubiquity (talk) 14:46, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, ubiquity, I'm probably just naive, but I'm hoping that the author has good intentions, he seems sincere. I'll talk to him about draft space, but will not have time to address that until the weekend. Sorry it can't be sooner. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 21:45, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I edited a page recently and thought that I reference thoroughly and paraphrased when necessary. If there is any way I could get some examples of what was wrong in terms on copyright I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help overall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.227.154.193 (talk) 13:15, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I was not signed in when I made this comment. Cody.copestick (talk) 13:20, 24 May 2016

No worries. First question, did you read the link that was provided about copyright violations? If so you may also want to read about close paraphrasing. All the material you added relied on close paraphrasing, or direct copying, from the Sykes web site. So that brings up another issue, primary sources. The entire article can't be comprised of information written by the subject of the article. Secondary sources such as books, magazines, newspapers, news web sites, etc. which meet the Wikipedia reliability policy should make up the bulk of the source material for the article. And must be written in the author's own voice. Similar to the standards you might see in an academic research paper. Read the articles linked here, and then let me know if you have further questions. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 13:33, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Meet St. Louis area Wikipedians this Sunday

[edit]

Hello! This coming Sunday, July 10th, a group of local Wikipedia contributors are getting together for the 2016 St. Louis Wiknic at Laumeier Sculpture Park. It's a low-key social event to chat with other Wikipedians. Grab a dish (or not, that's cool too) and join us!

If you know other folks in the area who might be interested, feel free to pass this along. We're hoping to gather an active and diverse local community of wiki editors.

Hope to see you there! —Verbistheword (talk) 20:56, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shiloh, Illinois – URL Removal (and Update)

[edit]

Wtwilson3:

Hi! I removed the link to the old website for the Wolf Branch School District because it took me to a parked domain with many ads. The first time I clicked on the link, "fake virus" pop-ups even came up! Thank you for your message to me, as it reminded me to update the link to the district's new website.

—— LBDesigns (talk) 15:37, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting it fixed. If there had been an edit summary on the original removal, I wouldn't have reverted it. Unfortunately it looked improper because it was removed without explanation. Glad we're all on the same page now. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 16:27, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Uber makes taxicabs obsolete

[edit]

I made those edits to the taxicab article because ridesharing services such as Uber are making taxicabs obsolete, much like Redbox kiosks made Blockbuster Video obsolete. Therefore, I do not see how that edit is vandalism. --2600:1002:B116:43EF:C02A:70D4:F4F5:7D93 (talk) 02:58, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Wtwilson3,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Youngest Maritime pilot

[edit]

Dear sir I noticed that my edit regarding Youngest Marine pilot has been removed due to no source supported! What do you mean by source if my self considered the youngest Marine pilot ever in the age of 25 years working in Sudanese ports, Qatar and recently Jebel Ali port dubai? This is what it came to my knowledge from both academy and administration! If I don't have document go prove! Can you prove I am not? All supporting documents to the age and qualifications available.

The writer of an article is responsible for providing reliable sources that are verifiable. Books, magazines, scholarly journals, not YouTube or a user's blog. When you try to make a claim about yourself you are engaging in what we call original research and you are effectively adding autobiographical material to the encyclopedia. Also, you run afoul of the Wikipedia conflict of interest policy. As you can see there are several Wikipedia policies here when are broken by you inserting information that only you say is so. Please read those links and then reply here with whatever sources you can show, and I will add the information back to the article myself so you can avoid any conflict of interest. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 21:55, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
I join the wiki family on 2013, when I was a student. I had no idea how to write and I was very confused. Luckily Bill.W guided me to the write direction and I could finish an article in acceptable quality. Now I'm back for my second article which was deleted with no discussion/communication from another user! That reminded me of how Bill.W was supportive and I appreciate this now and wish him all the best. Vicky Boltonart (talk) 03:04, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
