Request for Suggestions Regarding Dilraj Singh Rawat’s Wikipedia Page
[edit]Dear @Ipigott,
I am reaching out to seek your guidance regarding the Wikipedia page for Dilraj Singh Rawat. Despite their notable achievements and significant popularity, the page has been deleted multiple times in the past.
Dilraj Singh Rawat has a large fan base and is well-recognized. I believe their notability aligns with Wikipedia’s guidelines, but there may have been issues with sourcing or other criteria that led to the deletions.
Could you please provide suggestions on how to address the concerns raised during the previous deletions? I would also appreciate your advice on improving the article’s content and ensuring compliance with Wikipedia’s notability standards and reliable sourcing requirements.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your valuable insights.
Thankyou! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 03:24, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura: It is always difficult to succeed in creating a page which has been deleted on several previous occasions. If however the subject has recently been honoured with widely recognized awards or has been covered in reliable newspapers for some notable achievement, there may be a chance of acceptance. As far as I can see, there have been no such developments. I would therefore advise you to devote your time to creating biographies of other people. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:35, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Request for a feedback
[edit]Hey@Ipigott,
Lisa Sharkey is an article for a female I created a few weeks ago. It is currently on AFD, I would like to receive any feedback on how I can improve it. 24eeWikiUser (talk) 14:22, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- .@24eeWikiUser: There are detailed explanations of problems associated with the article on the AfD notification. The main problem seems to be the lack of recognized reliable sources.--Ipigott (talk) 14:30, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback. 24eeWikiUser (talk) 14:32, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Help stop deletion of Margaret D. Nadauld article
[edit]Given your interest in articles about historical women, could I please get your help? Someone has nominated the article Margaret D. Nadauld for deletion, claiming that Nadauld is not notable. It was the same person who did it 6 years ago. I'd appreciate if you could support keeping it. See the talk page on that article for my arguments why she's notable, or peruse the article's 25+ references yourself. Personally, I believe the person who proposed deletion deserves a trout for claiming that she's not notable, given the contents of those sources, and this perhaps should be a speedy keep. If you please, just follow the deletion discussion link, edit, and add a line at the bottom similar to the following:
- Keep: Your reason here. Davemc0 (talk) 16:57, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Davemc0: Given the argument for deletion, I think it would be useful if you could identify here three or four of the sources you have used which are independent, reliable and cover the subject in some detail. The mixture of primary and secondary sources causes confusion.--Ipigott (talk) 17:16, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
December music

Today's story comes from a DYK about a concert that fascinated me, and you can listen! For my taste, the hook has too little music - I miss the unusual scoring and the specific dedication - but it comes instead with a name good for viewcount. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:17, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
On the Main page today Jean Sibelius on his birthday! Listening to Beethoven's Fifth from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris. Perhaps you remember that you said in 2018 that Sibelius plays in Beethoven's league ;) - We sang in choirs today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
Listen today to the (new) Perplexities after Escher. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:54, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:37, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:26, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Today is a woman poet's centenary. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:55, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Consistent contributor | |
Thank you for all you do on en-wiki and elsewhere. I sought out the first image of a woman, Lisa de la Calmette, that you uploaded to Commons to recognise your huge contribution. Thanks today for updating the WiR statistics – I can't tell you how many times I visited Humaniki hoping to see the new date. Oronsay (talk) 20:00, 6 December 2024 (UTC) |
- That's very kind of you, Oronsay. I've been looking for the Humaniki update too. Not yet quite 20%. As for Lisa de la Calmette, I included her back in the days when I had a camera and was able to photograph items of interest. Lisa is behind Liselund, a charming thatched manor house and surrounding park on the Danish island of Møn where we have a summerhouse. You might also be interested to know that I suggested the silhouette of the Danish writer Kamma Rahbek as a basis for the WiR logo.--Ipigott (talk) 09:14, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Ipigott, for a fascinating diversion at the beginning of my day! I enjoyed reading the Liselund article, particularly about its part in WWII, and also seeing the original image of our WiR silhouette. Oronsay (talk) 18:45, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
Ersi Arvizu
[edit]Dear Ipigott, I hope you are doing well these days. In a minute, I will move my draft page on Ersi Arvizu to main space and then I will try to add some categories to it. If you happen to come across the page I would, as ever, be very grateful if you could see if you think it is okay. Any awful blunders, please let me know? Thank you. Balance person (talk) 09:27, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Balance person: It would be good it you could systematically use Defaultsort to facilitate sorting under the family name. You can click on it in Wiki Markup at the foot of the page you are editing. I also think your See also items would be better suited to External links. See also is for other Wikipedia articles. Happy editing!--[[User:|Ipigott]] (talk) 14:39, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your time and teaching. Very useful. I have changed 'See also' to 'External links'. I think you might have already applied DefaultSort as I cannot seem to do that?Balance person (talk) 15:15, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Balance person I think your "External links" are really "Further reading", and both EL and FR are placed after the references and not before - I've fixed that.
- There is a very easy way to add the DEFAULTSORT (so the article files by surname in lists), and Category:Living people where appropriate, and any birth or death date category: {{subst:L|1882|1984|Brown, Annie}} would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Brown, Annie}}, Category:1882 births and Category:1984 deaths, while {{subst:L|||Smith, Jane}} would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Smith, Jane}}, Category:Living people and Category:Date of birth missing (living people). Lack of death date implies "living" (or you can add "unknown" or "missing" as the death date to suppress this). You get a lot done for a few keystrokes: I think it's a great little template. Happy Editing. PamD 19:14, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Dear PamD, I had no idea there was such a person as a 'talk page watcher'!!
- Thanks very much for explaining where the Further reading sub heading goes and for fixing it on the page. I have made a note of that for the future.
- I am less certain about the DEFAULTSORT. I use the visual editor so have not a clue about where to find it or do it. Can I find a button for it or a mention of it when I am making a draft? Or only after I have moved a draft to main space or only when I start to do categories? If the latter, then when I go into categories in visual editor does it show up somewhere? Sorry to be slow but I would like to learn this. Thanks for your time. Balance person (talk) 21:21, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- In accordance with the advice from PamD, if in this case you had used the template {{subst:L|1948|Arvizu, Erzi}} (you just need the actual template without the nowikis) you would not only have created Defaultsort but also the categories Living person and 1948 births. This was new to me but I now intend to use it when adding categories to the new biographies I keep finding everydat. I wonder if it is described anywhere?--Ipigott (talk) 11:13, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott It's a template, {{L}}, and it's been around quite a while - I seem to remember it was left over after another template called "Lifetime" or something was deleted, but this shortcut was allowed to remain and is a wonderful saving of typing time - so few keystrokes has such a lot of output! Ah, oninvestigating I see it's a shortcut for {{Person categories}}, and a valuable saving of 16 keystrokes. I use it all the time when creating biographies. Perhaps it's time for me to remind WiR people about it. There's always something more to learn about editing!
- @Balance person You just type it in, above the categories, but I'm afraid I don't use Visual Editor so am not sure how it works there. PamD 11:23, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm another talkpage watcher and am grateful to learn about this template which is new to me, too. Thanks, PamD! --Rosiestep (talk) 11:37, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

- PamD: I tried adding template subst:L|1946|Selz, Dorothee to Dorothée Selz but it did not work. I added sort and cat DOB in the normal way. Can you explain what's wrong?--Ipigott (talk) 12:49, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Only one date: add another "|" to create an empty death field. PamD 13:17, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Seasons Greetings!
[edit]Hello there, 'tis the season again, believe it or not, the years pass so quickly now! A big thank you for all of your contributions to Wikipedia in 2024! Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas and here's to a happy and productive 2025! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:37, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Dr. Blofeld. Nice presentation, particularly the Christmas cat. Yes, the years certainly speed by as you get older. Seems no time since we were decorating for Christmas last year. All the very best to you and your too! --Ipigott (talk) 08:47, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed, thanks. Is West Flemish the same as Limburgish? Google translate recognizes text from West Flemish wiki as "Limburgish", and I see no option for it as West Flemish nor mention in the article I can see of Limburgish! I have read a bit of Swedish and Danish too now, and understand quite a bit, sometimes you can spot obvious variations on German and Dutch words. Still trying to get my French, German and Italian up to a very good level. Romansch and Luxembourgish I find intriguing too, Romansch is the 4th official language of Switzerland!I
- Limburgish article says "Standard Dutch, which developed mostly from West Low Franconian dialects such as Flemish and Brabantic,[24] serves as the standard language (or Dachsprache) for the Limburgish varieties spoken in the Netherlands and Belgium. The speakers of Limburgish or South Low Franconian dialects in Germany use Standard German as their Dachsprache". I guess West Flemish is a dialect/variety of Limburguish? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:43, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- West Flemish includes a number of dialects spoken in Belgium of which Limburgish, spoken in the area bordering Maastrict is one of them. As a result of radio, TV and schooling, these dialects are dying out although there are recognized differences between Belgian Flemish and Dutch. Not so with Romansch and Luxembourgish which are thriving languages. Until Luxembourgish was adopted as a national language in 1984, it also consisted of 14 regional dialects. Now one standard version is taught. Good to hear your are progressing with French, German and Italian.--Ipigott (talk) 12:05, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- I see. Interesting as I was very aware of the Flemish language from a very young age but had never heard of Romansch or Luxembourguish until I started on here! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:54, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Spanish to English translations
[edit]Dear Ipigott, An editor called Nick Number has gone ahead and translated Margarita Barrientos and plans to do Ruth Eleonora Lopez, Johana Bahamon and Katherine Martinez as well. I will follow on behind and see if I can add any sources in English to them once they are done. I am sorry to lose the chance to work on drafts with you but maybe we can another time. Meanwhile a few more biographies are being done so it is, as people say, 'all good'! Thanks for everything. Balance person (talk) 08:42, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
