Wikiproject Futurama

[edit]

Sure, count me in :) I notice there is no mention of Futurama/New article on the page, maybe that should be mentioned. If you don't know, it is an in progress rewrite of the Futurama article. Also, black on red, doesn't work. --LorianTC 08:20, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about the colours on here? --LorianTC 08:35, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh, 3 test in one day, that sucks. I just finished my final exams on Friday, no more school for me :) Good luck. --LorianTC 09:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have accepted your invitation and added my name to The List. Thanks! Nic tan33 09:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to help. Wow...3 tests..only 1 more exam for me on Friday and semester 1 is done for me! Nic tan33 09:17, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also joining up, I've been waiting to see something besides "coming soon" on that page for a long while. Stardust8212 12:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: AFL Drafts

[edit]

Thank you HEAPS for the kudos on the AFL Drafts, I've been waiting some time for somebody to give me some kudos for what I've been contributing on this site. As for where I get the info from, I own both AFL 2004 and AFL Guide To Season 2005 which are official stat books of the AFL. It gives information on the drafts, awards, Hall of Fame, games, goals, coaches, finals, venues, ladders and match records of the AFL so as far as stats are concerned I've basically got it covered! If you need some info just drop me line. Don't forget about the Barnstar! Normy132 11:20, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Normy132 12:30, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AFL rewrite

[edit]

Interesting - although I think perhaps we should just start from scratch without the page being copied. Lay it out first etc... This way we can then incorporate information from the existing article and properly order it. Rogerthat Talk 11:01, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's this list of possible 1.0 articles, but articles such as Andrew Mackie were deemed non-NPOV and were cut down, so not sure how reliable that list is. Not really sure many WP:AFL articles are up to standard because there's usually only input from a couple of people on one article. (Sirengate is a good article though, with many people contributing). ... Also have you checked out Footy Wikia? I've included all draft information on that site and think there's potential on there to include more specialised footy information (but not as a replacement for WP). Make sure you spread the word ;) Rogerthat Talk 11:41, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jasrocks. I came across your userpage and looked at it and got the impression that you are from Adelaide, even though you are not explicitly written in the Adelaide category. Mind having a look at the proposed meetup. Most of my writing here is on swimming btw - about 90 Australian Olympic medallists' bios (on my userpage).Regards, Blnguyen | rant-line 23:18, 4 July 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Use of the bot for WP:Adelaide

[edit]

Hi Jasrocks, Don't worry, I have a hard time with templates too, if I can't copy & paste then I usually get stuck myself. That's why I just went to {{WP Geelong notice}} and blatantly stole the layout from there (feel free to change the photo etc. should be easy). I've set you up with a template called Template:WP Adelaide notice that just does quality and importance, if you want to get more sophisticated (with comments) you can add more features later. You will also get a table, log and statistics. At WP:Chem where I'm involved, we haven't even got the importance to work yet, so you can see my level of expertise!

There may be easier ways for the next part, but I don't know them! I suggest taking a look how Wikipedia:WikiProject Geelong does this, and see Category:Geelong-related articles by quality. First, create a category called Category:Adelaide articles by quality, and place this in Category:Wikipedia_1.0_assessments. The next step is to tag a few article talk pages with the template, ideally using articles at every level of the assessment scale - FA, A, GA, B, Start and Stub, and also an NA (not assessed). Click on the categories created by the template, and place all of these into the category you made before, Category:Adelaide articles by quality. If you want to use importance as well, create a similar set for that and put it in Category:Adelaide articles by importance. Then let us know that you're ready to go, and wait for the bot to pick it up! Walkerma 17:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've created four of the most useful categories for you - Stub, Start, B and GA, please talk a look at Category:B-Class Adelaide-related articles (click on edit to see the wikicode) to see what I did. When you create a category, there has to be something on the page for it to accept articles, and the most important thing for a category is usually the parent category (otherwise it's called an "orphan" and may be deleted). I've done my best, for someone who's never been within 5000 miles of Adelaide, to assess articles, please correct any errors at Talk:River Torrens, Talk:Noarlunga Centre Interchange and Talk:Mount Lofty Botanic Garden before someone gets upset with me! I noticed afterwards that you already have a project template, you may want to merge these together to avoid duplication. Let's see what happens tonight, usually it takes a couple of nights to get fully included. If the bot misses it, let me know, though I'm going to be very busy over the next couple of days and may not reply. You can try setting up the importance categories once you know the bot is working for you. Good luck! Walkerma 21:57, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that we never placed Category:Adelaide articles by quality in Category:Wikipedia_1.0_assessments, so the bot missed it tonight. I've added it, so it should get picked up tomorrow night. Walkerma 04:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've got the Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers lying around at home (it's from 1997). There wasn't much info on him but it had his DOB, games and goals though. Rogerthat Talk 04:08, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

soccer (football)

[edit]

I'm sorry, but I have been through this soccer/football debate. The agreed term was football (soccer). Look in the Football (soccer) in Australia talk section. It has already been voted on and decided.

Wikiproject assessment

[edit]

Hi Jasrocks. I see you're replacing the {{WP Adelaide notice}} template with {{WP Australia|Adelaide=true}}. Will you update Wikipedia:WikiProject Adelaide#Article assessment with the new correct info too? I was going to start, and realised I don't really know what to change it to. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 10:46, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We can keep it if we want too, just that I didnt know about the Australia assessment. It will be better if we keep it it's just that I thought that no-one was interested in it from the Adelaide project. I only removed 2 articles so you can keep going if you wish.
Cheers, Jasrocks Talk 10:48, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind either way. The {{WP Australia}} should be mentioned too. I don't generally do quality assessments, and the importance assessments should be global, so it makes little difference to me. Do you know if other Aus wikiprojects have both Aus and local assesment templates? Discuss at WP:AWNB or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia if you like. --Scott Davis Talk 10:54, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The geelong WikiProject might, not sure though... Jasrocks Talk 10:55, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A-League 2006-07 Newsletter I

[edit]
Introduction
The first ever Wikiproject A-League newsletter is here! The 2006-07 A-League season will bring the usual enjoyment and fanaticism that only football/soccer can create. This new season also means a lot of (currently-open) tasks that require completion throughout the course of the next 21 weeks.
Position Ladder
A Position Ladder will be placed on each team page, which will provide an up-to-date visualization of the current A-League standings. However, problems may occur when Position Ladders aren't updated with the new statistics that don't involve matches of the team whose page the Position Ladder resides on. To remedy this, a base Position Ladder will be created, which will be located at {{2006-07 A-League Position Ladder}} (link). Please update this as soon as possible after the match has ended, as this will keep the Wikipedia community informed.

A few notes regarding the base Position Ladder:-

  • Please do not substitute the Position Ladder template on the team pages, as it won’t get automatically updated if you do.
  • Please only update the Position Ladder at the end of a match, and if there is any large dispute about the result, do not add it, but instead wait for an official report by the A-League confirming the result.
  • When updating, make sure to adjust all of the below fields:-
    • The played field – add one (eg. 13→14 etc.)
    • Either the win, loss or draw field, depending on the result for that team.
    • The points field – either add 3 points (win), 1 point (draw) or leave the same (loss)
    • The for and the against section
    • Make sure you repeat this process for both teams – not just the team you follow!
Summary Tables
Each team page will have a Summary Table added to it, which will provide an at-a-glance look at the results of the team throughout the season. We ask that, at every chance you get, you fill in the results of these Summary Tables – it only takes a few seconds, but it will help keep the uninformed "in the loop" – it is an encyclopedia we’re writing, after all.

As with the Position Ladders, a few notes about the Summary Tables:-

  • Please place the winner in bold text (using '''winning team''').
  • With the crowd figures, please only place a comma if the attendance is over 10,000 people (eg. use 8648 instead of 8,468 and 11,482 instead of 11482).

[edit]

Hi Jasrocks, and thanks for your help so far on Version 0.5. We've made it over 1000 articles! Now we only have about four weeks left to review articles for Wikipedia:Version 0.5. I was wondering if you could take a look at Wikipedia:Version_0.5/To_do and sign up for something? I'd like us to make sure we don't miss anything important. And once the end of the month rolls around we can take a well-deserved break...! Any help you can give would be most welcome. Thanks, Walkerma 21:12, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A-League Newsletter II, 2006

[edit]
WikiProject A-League Newsletter
Issue II – September 2006
Current Player project status
10% complete
A-League News

Project News
  • The Player project has been moved, overhauled and refined. It now is not limited to the 2005-06 player list. However, only 10% of articles are considered "complete", and hopefully we can get this figure to approach 100% by the end of the season.
  • Major changes to the layout of the 2006-07 A-League season page have taken place recently, and an infobox created. A table for attendances, as well as top scorer etc. are now in place. All users are encouraged to update the scores for completed matches as they come in.
  • Recently, Perth Glory F.C. was moved to Perth Glory FC after no objections were raised at the Wikiproject talk page. All links to the old page (including various templates) were changed.
  • The project requires pictures of games and stadiums to help improve articles. Any pictures are much appreciated.
  • The A-League Portal has been set up. Feel free to update the scores, and make sure you check out the selected article and picture each fortnight.
  • The football (soccer) barnstar has recently became the official award of the Wikiproject. Feel free to hand it out to anyone you see making excellent contributions to all things A-League related.

Expansion of WP:A-League

[edit]

Hi Jasrocks,

Just thought I'd let you know there is currently a proposal to expand WikiProject A-League to include all areas of football/soccer in Australia, including the NSL, A-League, Socceroos, state leagues and more. A more formal proposal page can be found here. Please indicate whether you support the idea or not at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject A-League, and also add your 2c about what the new project should be called. Admin coaching - November 1 - New coaches

[edit]

Your coach is Fang Aili. Exactly what form the admin coaching takes is up to you and the coaches to decide, but a general piece of advice I give is to set up a user subpage (for example User:EXAMPLE/Admin coaching) to keep coaching discussion together. That prevents things getting split up over three talk pages, which can get confusing! Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. Cheers, Highway Grammar Enforcer! 17:02, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Might I suggest you familiarize yourself with these pages: Wikipedia:Department directory, Wikipedia:Shortcuts, and Wikipedia:Administrators. Once you know your way around Wikipedia, including backstage, you'll know exactly where to apply your strengths and interests. There's a vandalism section in the department directory. I suggest you start with Wikipedia:RC Patrol.  The Transhumanist   09:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jasrocks, you stated three reasons why the article can't be a GA yet.

  • The trophy photo firstly is not properly tagged
According to a discussion on the uploader's talk page, found here, the uploader doesn't own the photo and so I removed it from the page. Note on WP:WIAGA Criterion 6b)"lack of images does not in itself prevent an article from achieving Good Article status." Also by the weekend, it is likely that another image will be added, not of the trophy but a map showing the best results of teams similar to this one from the FIFA World Cup and this one from the Rugby World Cup.
  • In the summary of the World Cups section, a link to the scorecards would be good for the finals
Is a link to a Cricinfo scorecard sufficient? Wikipedia doesn't have good "reports/scorecards." We would have to otherwise link to reports like this or this. The 1975 page gives just as much info as the main page does. What do you think?
  • You might not want to go up to the 2019 World Cup on that table,
Fixed. 2015 and 2019 were redirects, so those were removed.

Please reply so that we can make it a GA and eventually an FA! Thanks GizzaChat © 21:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the scorecards. Is it ready now? GizzaChat © 00:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Lane (2006)

[edit]

Just to let you know, the source you wanted is in the impact section. Generally, the WPTC doesn't source things in the lede if they are found later in the article. It makes the lede look cluttered and messy. Hurricanehink (talk) 23:43, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Last seen on Aus WOF.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Last seen on Aus WOF.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. WPRL Article Improvement Drive

[edit]

Hey I've noticed you're a regular on rugby league articles, particulary NRL ones. I need your advice on something I'm thinking of starting up on the project. Many WikiProjects have Article Improvement Drives which have different levels of success. I'm thinking of starting one up for this one too, but instead of voting on an article I would rather strive to improve one NRL club every fortnight and bring it up very close to featured status. Now it seems as though there'd be a lot of work involved, but there are also a lot of club fans out there who'd probably be willing to participate. Basically there are 30 weeks in the NRL season and there are 15 club pages that are not yet featured. I propose that we all have a schedule to work on one new article every second round, in alphabetical order. By the end of the season hopefully we will have 15 near-complete, if not complete articles. My only concern at this stage is the dedication of editors to help out other team pages that they are not interested in. Basically in order to get the support of editors like these, we need a few leaders in the project. If you are willing to dedicate a bit of your time every week into this and if you have any further suggestions, could you let me know at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league/Article improvement drive? Thanks, --15:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
